SsangYong has showcased the next generation Rexton SUV at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. It gets an evolutionary design, but with a familiar silhouette and the Mahindra-owned South Korean automaker’s latest layout.
The face of this new Rexton is dominated by a two piece grille, head lamps with LED DRLs and bumper with subtle chrome overlays. On the side, you can see the large rear overhang and large five-spoke wheels.
You get a stacked design at the rear with the large rectangular tail lamps acting as one level of divide while the wedge shaped reflectors provide the second separation in the stack. Here too, the bumper has been given a chrome overlay.
The cabin is a leather-dominated brown and black space with all the segment usuals like touchscreen infotainment system, climate control and electrically adjustable seats. There is space for seven people and a whole load of storage spaces.
The Rexton is powered by a 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. It’s a Mercedes sourced engined and has been mated to a seven-speed Mercedes AT. AWD is expected to be offered on the top-of-the-line model.
Now here is the big part. It seems likely that Mahindra will bring this car to India, but with a Mahindra badge rather than the SsangYong badge. Some suggest that it may even be called the XUV700 and will be the automaker’s rival to the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.
