China’s leading vehicle exporter – Chery is to start an all-new model line of passenger cars globally with plans to sell in Europe within the next few years. This new range of cars will be sold under the EXEED nameplate.
The first Chery model to go on sale across Europe, the EXEED TX, will be a compact SUV designed mainly for young buyers. It is being revealed globally in pre-production form for the first time at the Frankfurt Motor Show. In the cabin, sharp horizontal lines and LED lighting will be the key highlights in this new crossover. The cabin’s appeal is further augmented by the 10-inch touchscreen in the centre of the dash.
The EXEED TX will be available in Europe with three electrified powertrains: a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) or battery electric vehicle (BEV). The first configuration to go on sale will be the PHEV variant. This model will combine a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor, powering the TX via an all-wheel-drive system through a 7-speed hybrid drive transmission.
With the combined power of the combustion engine and e-motor, the compact SUV will reach 100kmph in 6 seconds, with a top speed of 200kmph. The EXEED TX will be able to travel up to 120kmph for up to 70km in pure electric mode. The battery would fast-charge to 80 per cent in 30 minutes and reach full charge from a 220 V household supply in four hours.
Chery is evaluating the sales opportunity in key markets for future SUV and crossover models, and is planning new design and R&D facilities in Europe that will accelerate the brand’s plans for global expansion.
