BMW showcased an all-new X7 iPerformance Concept at the ongoing 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. This design study will spawn an all-new flagship X7 SUV from the Bavarian carmaker. The Concept car was powered by BMW’s iPerformance eDrive powertrain.
The production-spec X7 will be making its debut sometime next year. It’s a part of BMW’s biggest model offensive till date. It will spearhead the X-range as a luxurious three-row SUV.
In typical BMW Concept fashion, the X7 Concept rocks the overly large kidney grille. The chrome laden grille is flanked by sleek LED headlights that carry the new X signature in laser light.
The front bumpers are decorated with massive vertical air-intakes and chrome highlights. The wheel arches are slightly flared. There is a chrome highlight running vertically from front fenders to the rear wheel arch.
The large chrome wheels are imposing. The D-pillar is fairly upright giving the Concept a proper full-size SUV appeal. At the rear, a single sleek LED tail lights completes the massive proportion of the X7 Concept.
On the inside is a modern cabin, similar to the ones seen in the Z4 and 8 Series Concepts. The steering wheel is stylish, complemented by all digital screen for the instrument cluster. The centre console is minimalistic with glossy materials all around the cabin.
BMW says the concept’s iPerformance comes with the eDrive powertrain. Which means there is a turbocharged petrol engine coupled with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. No other details are revealed by the German carmaker.
When launched next year, the production spec X7 will go up against the Mercedes-Benz GLS, Audi Q7 and Range Rover Sports. The three-row SUV is expected to be based on the same platform as the new-gen 7 Series.
There will be a range of petrol and diesel engines on offer. The xDrive all-wheel-drive system will come as standard. Expect a host of safety and driver assist systems to be offered with the all-new X7.
