Nico Rorberg claimed pole position for Mercedes at the British Grand Prix, ahead of the reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull, in dramatically changing weather conditions. The two McLarens of Jenson Button and Magnunses split the Sahara Force India of Hulkenberg with a P3 and P5 , while Lewis Hamilton will start from P6 ahead of Sergio Perez.
Lewis Hamilton took provisional pole in the third session as slight drizzle forced cars back to the pits. The conditions improved dramatically in the final moments and drivers who opted to do a second run improved, while Hamilton tumbled down the order after abandoning a lap due to slippery conditions.
The rains also played spoil sport for both Ferrari and Williams as neither of their cars managed to clear Q1. Bottas and Massa will start in P17 and P18, while Alonso will start at P19 ahead of Raikkonen in P20. Toro Rosso on the other hand managed to get both their cars in the top ten, while both the Saubers suffered after going off-track.
Caterham drivers have failed to reach 107 per cent time in the qualifiers, but hopefully their practice pace will be taken into consideration by the stewards ahead of tomorrow’s race.
