Ford has teased images of its global concept car to be unveiled at the Auto Expo 2014. The concept car will be indigenously made by the American company for developing markets.
The teased images show the styling of the concept car which is in sync with the company’s current global line-up. The extended headlights and Aston Martin-esque hexagonal grille is all that’s evident from the picture. This concept has been developed to cater to the needs of Indian car buyers, says Ford. The global concept is expected to be a small car but whether it will replace any product in India or will be slotted below it is unknown.
The teased images show a strong resemblance to the Ford Ka concept shown in Brazil and the news about the Ka concept also making it to the Expo seems confusing; but Ford claims this is a new concept altogether.
India is a small car market and the great potential in terms of volume tempts most global players to get their offerings into this very lucrative segment. The stakes are high as Ford expects small car sales to grow twice the number from 2013 to about 2 million vehicles in 2018.
Ford, once the top three car manufacturers in the world who played the volume game, of late, lost its position to other companies. Currently, Toyota leads the market globally followed by General Motors at second position and Volkswagen Group at third. The growing small car market in developing countries especially India is where you can rake in volumes which will add up to the overall sales worldwide.
