Ford India has confirmed that their new plant in Sanand Gujarat will be ready next year. The new facility will most likely be Ford’s small-car hub in India catering to both domestic and export markets.
Taking to media ahead of the Vibrant Gujarat summit, Ford India’s new MD, Joginder Singh said, "Around 4,000 people are working on ground at Sanand, the project is very much on track and it will be commissioned by 2014”. The car maker is investing USD 1 Billion in Gujarat for an integrated manufacturing plant for end-to-end operations including stamping, paint shop, body and assembly line for both cars and engines.
The new facility is rumored to be the Ford’s new small-car hub. The company may launch a new sub-Figo small car in India next year – this will then be built at the Sanand facility, along with the all-new Figo that is expected in 2015.
Ford is also investing to build strong dealer and service network in the country. The company aims to have 250 dealers by end of this year and around 500 by mid-decade; taking their total investment in India to USD 2 Billion.
