Ford has confirmed at the recent Frankfurt Motor Show that its latest and smallest engine the newly developed three-cylinder 1-litre EcoBoost, will be powering the Focus, C-Max and B-Max in Europe. Ford will introduce two versions of the engine featuring two different states of tune. While one will be tuned to produce a peak output of 100bhp, the other will generate 120bhp. In both versions transmission will be via a 5-speed or a 6-speed manual gearbox.
This new powerplant is the latest addition to the EcoBoost range of engines, which varied in capacity from 1.6 litres to 3.5 litres so far. And, according to Ford, it delivers the same performance as a 1.6-litre engine but with CO2 emissions as low as 120g/km. The engine will produced in Ford’s plants in North America, China and other regions as well.
