Ford India has produced their one millionth car and engine at their Chennai Vehicle Assembly and Engine Plant (CVAEP). The milestone achieving car was the Ford EcoSport.
CVAEP began its operations in 1999 with commercial production. It has shown a gradual but steady growth ever since it was established in the country 16 years ago. The facility has helped localising the products across its portfolio to helping create job opportunities in India since its inception.
This manufacturing facility is spread over 350 acres and also houses an engine assembly plant that started commercial operations in 2008. Both petrol and diesel engines can be built at this engine plant that features Ford’s single-flexible production line. CVAEP has an installed capacity to assemble up to 2,00,000 vehicles and 3,40,000 engines a year.
This same manufacturing plant also caters to the export demand by supplying vehicles and engines to 40 different markets including ASEAN, European, Middle-Eastern and African countries. This facility is a part of Ford’s ‘Make in India’ vision, establishing India as a global manufacturing hub for small cars and low-displacement engines.
