American automaker Ford has introduced a new four-cylinder 2.0-litre Ford EcoBlue engine which claims to offer better fuel efficiency and reduced CO2 and NOX emissions. The new technology engine will first find place in new Transit and Transit Custom vans, Europe’s bestselling commercial vehicle.
The new EcoBlue diesel engine will generate about 20 per cent more torque at 1,250rpm as compared to the older 2.0-litre engines. This engine will be used by Ford to power its future generation of passenger cars and commercial vehicles. Along with more power, the new engine will also be eco-friendly as it has been developed for reduced friction and cleaner combustion system. The new engine can be used to generate different power outputs ranging between 97bhp and 234bhp.
The engine is stated to be built with similar technology and will perform like EcoBoost petrol engines. Internationally, the 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engine will initially be used in commercial vehicles with different power output figures – 103bhp, 126bhp and 166bhp.
Speaking about the new-engine, Jim Farley, chairman and CEO of Ford of Europe said, “Ford’s EcoBoost created a new standard for petrol engines – smaller, more efficient with surprising performance. That same obsession to innovate for the customer is behind our new Ford EcoBlue diesel engine range. This new engine lifts fuel efficiency and reduces CO2 by over 10 percent in Transit, part of Europe’s bestselling commercial vehicle line-up and lowering costs for our customers.”
It will take quite a while before the EcoBlue engine is introduced in India, as there are no official announcements for the same.
