Ford’s highly acclaimed 1-litre EcoBoost engine has just received its eighth award in four years at the 2015 International Engine of the Year Awards. For the fourth consecutive year, the turbocharged petrol engine was named “Best Engine Under 1.0-litre.”
It was judged the class winner, thanks to its impressive drivability, high performance and refinement. Since its introduction, the 1-litre EcoBoost engine has been at the top of the game for small petrol engines despite the rising competition.
Last year, the three-cylinder EcoBoost unit became the first engine ever to be named International Engine of the Year three times in a row. The popular unit is available with automatic as well as 5-speed and 6-speed manual transmissions, and across 10 different models – from Fiesta to the new Mondeo. Here in India, the EcoBoost engine made its debut in the EcoSport compact crossover.
Ford is now working on making this engine ever more efficient than before. The brand, in fact, is currently running tests on the turbocharged three cylinder unit with a working prototype.
