-Third generation SUV -Will be sold as the Escape in the US market -Mild hybrid as well as full plugin hybrid Ford has unveiled the third generation Kuga/Escape. It’s a new mid-size crossover and is a major change from the previous generation vehicle. This new generation Kuga sports a crossover design based on the Focus. Highlights of the car’s new design include headlamps, tail lamps, design of the wheels and, most importantly, the silhouette which has ushered the car into the new generation.
Inside, it is typical Ford with black interiors all around. At the centre is a full digital instrument cluster - a massive floating display used for the touchscreen infotainment as well as climate control. It has been fitted with a host of new driver aid and safety functions like speed sign recognition and lane-centering technologies to help drivers negotiate stop-start and highway traffic. Head-up display technology helps drivers keep their eyes on the road ahead, and active park assist 2.0 enables fully automated parking manoeuvres at the push of a button.
One of the major highlights of this new Kuga/Escape is that Ford is offering it with hybrid tech right from launch day itself. It can be had as either a plugin hybrid, full hybrid and even the diesel engines get the EcoBlue hybrid setup. The Kuga is a premium SUV that takes on the likes of the VW Tiguan and could possibly be India-bound post 2022 as a part of its future SUV onslaught.
