American automaker Ford emphasised its growth propositions in the Middle East and Africa in a dramatic manner with the introduction of the new Mustang on Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building.
“Today we planted the Ford flag in the Middle East & Africa, an exciting, vibrant region that represents the final frontier for growth in the auto industry. We also sent a message to the world that Mustang is going global after 50 years as America’s greatest motoring icon,” said Ford Executive Chairman Bill Ford.
Industry sales in Middle East and Africa are expected to grow 40 per cent to 5.5 million vehicles by 2020. To meet new customer demand, Ford has announced that it plans to launch 25 vehicles in the said regions by 2016, including the new Mustang which debuts next year.
To mark the occasion, Ford sent six of its engineers to assemble the Mustang GT convertible on the 112th floor of the Burj Khalifa skyscraper. For the first time in its 50-year history, the infamous muscle car will be available in right-hand-drive configuration for various global markets. Although the introduction of a right-hand-drive model makes things easier for Ford to contemplate the Mustang for India, the vehicle is certainly not on the cards for an official launch here, anytime soon.
