The Ford Mustang has a massive fan following across the globe but has never been made in right-hand drive, until now. Ford UK, in fact, has just announced that it has received 2,000 bookings for the Mustang as the first right-hand drive cars begin to roll off the production line at the brand’s assembly plant in Michigan, North America.
Ford has also revealed some interesting figures on the buying trends of its new model in the UK. So far, 80 per cent of UK customers have opted for the fastback body style over the convertible and 70 per cent have specified the 5-litre V8 engine over the more fuel efficient 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine.
As for the gearbox, the 6-speed manual gearbox has turned out to be a slightly more popular choice (55 per cent) over the 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters.
The right-hand drive Mustang is already on sale in the UK and as for the Indian market, we will probably get the Mustang in the future as a halo product from Ford. The car has been spotted at the ARAI facility at Chakan in the past, leading us to believe that it has been imported for homologation purposes. However, there is no official word on the Mustang yet as Ford India is purely concentrating on the Figo Aspire and the forthcoming Figo hatchback and the new Endeavour.
