Ford India has tweeted that it will make a major announcement very shortly and this will most likely be the launch date for the Ford EcoSport compact SUV. Despite pretty much every single detail of the car being made public and it being spotted in testing across various locations, Ford is still to make an official announcement on the launch.
The Ford EcoSport is a sub-four metre compact SUV and is one of the Blue Oval’s most highly anticipated launches for 2013. Much has happened with regard to the car in the last two weeks; a savannah orange EcoSport (bearing an MH-43 plate) was spotted first at a dealership in Mumbai and then in Banglore.
This was followed by news that dealers had begun taking bookings for the EcoSport and were collecting an advanced amount of Rs 25000-Rs 50000, in fact one dealers we had spoken to said that they had to close bookings for the EcoSport due to high demand and no official word on the launch.
We then got some spy shots of the interiors as well as information that the Ford Academy in conjunction with Ford training Asia Pacific had held a programme at the American automakers facility outside Chennai with various Ford trainers from across the country to get them familiarised with the EcoSport. The programme comprised classroom sessions, product familiarisation and test drives.
The Ford EcoSport will be powered by the 1.0-litre Ecoboost engine which produces 128bhp and 170Nm of torque as well as the 1.5-litre diesel mill which produces 90bhp, 204Nm of torque and currently sits in the Fiesta sedan. Power will be transmitted to the wheels via a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox.
We are desperately waiting for the EcoSport much like everyone else and will keep you posted when Ford pushes out the word.
