Another day, another EcoSport story and this time they have confirmed that the production version for the European market will be showcased by Ford at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show next month. It will share the stage with the new Toureno van and is expected to be launched there few months later.
The EcoSport is based on the Blue Oval’s B-platform and is a part of its ‘One Ford’ global philosophy. We already know its features and the engine line up as the car has been on sale in the Brazilian market for the last two to three months. It will be launched for the Chinese and Indian market shortly and this will be followed by South Africa, Sri Lanka, South Asia and eventually the Middle East by the end of the year.
The European markets are expected to get the 1.6-litre EcoBoost petrol engine along with the award winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine. The latter produces 128bhp and around 120Nm of torque and will be present on the India spec EcoSport. The European markets are also expected get the 1.5-litre diesel mill which currently powers the Ford Fiesta as well as diesel variants of the new Mondeo sedan. Power will be transmitted to the wheels via a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic (petrol only).
Ford has not given an official date for the launch (It did tweet about an impending large announcement either) but has confirmed that the EcoSport will be launched with a very competitive price to ensure that it sells in good numbers.
