It has been revealed that the new Ford Fiesta will be launched in India, this month. The car made its Indian debut at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo and has been spotted testing for some time now. Deliveries are expected to begin in a couple of weeks after the car’s launch.
The new Fiesta is just a facelift of the current car and is based on the European model. It continues to use the current model’s platform with some prominent cosmetic changes like a chrome garnished Aston Martin-esque front grille, a large set of angular headlamps, a new sculpted bonnet and redesigned fog lamp housings.
The rear houses a redesigned tail lamp cluster, a new bootlid and bumper with a chrome inserts and claddings. The interior has also been revised and gets a piano black centre console, high-gloss finish for the instrument panel and a redesigned steering wheel.
The new Fiesta will be available in three variants – Ambiente, Trend and Titanium, all of them powered by a diesel engine. The 1.5-litre TDCi unit produces 90bhp and 204Nm of torque, sending power to the front wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. While the previous version also got the option of a 1.5-litre petrol engine, Ford might employ the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine for the new Fiesta, sometime later in the year.
The new Fiesta will go up against the Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Volkswagen Vento and the Maruti SX4 in the C-Segment. Ford will have to come up with a competitive pricing strategy for the new Fiesta to make sure it doesn’t end up the same way as the current car, which has found very few takers due to its high price tag.
