Ford will launch the EcoSport compact Crossover for the Indian market tomorrow. It is one of the most highly anticipated vehicles of 2013 and has been the talk of Indian motoring circles for the last one year. We have previewed it, reviewed it and yesterday did the ASI (Archaeological Survey of India) equivalent of a year-long dig to sift through our pages and bring you the highlights of the EcoSport from the last one year.
The Ford EcoSport is a sub four metre compact crossover. It will be offered with two petrol engines and one diesel mill. The former comprises a 1.5-litre mill and the award winning 123PS and 170Nm of torque 1.0-litre Ecoboost mill. The diesel is a 1.5-litre oil burner that produces 89PS and 204 Nm of torque and has been sourced from the Fiesta sedan.
Ford is believed to be banking heavily on the EcoSport to return it (in terms of sales) to days of the initial days of the Ikon sedan and Figo hatchback. It has already said that it will price the crossover competitively and is expected to use its export to around 32 countries as leverage in this regard. Bookings for EcoSport have already begun and dealers are charging Rs 50, 000 as the booking amount irrespective of the variant.
