If rumours are to be believed, Ford is preparing to enter the MPV segment in the Indian car market by developing an MPV based on the Ford Ka Concept. This MPV might be launched in 2016 after the introduction of the Ford Figo Concept sedan in India by 2015.
The Ford Figo concept displayed at the recently concluded Auto Expo borrows traits from the Ka concept car that was unveiled in Brazil. The vehicle has a longer wheelbase than the Figo concept which can form the base for the MPV.
The new Ford MPV might be powered by the same engines from the Fiesta. The 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine powering the EcoSport might also be used for this compact MPV.
Ford doesn’t have any MPV in its Indian portfolio and our belief that the American manufacturer might be working on the same lines might not be incorrect. The MPV will go up against the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Chevrolet Enjoy and the upcoming Honda Mobilio when launched.
