Ford has stopped takings bookings for certain variants of the EcoSport compact crossover due to excess demand. The company is believed to be facing extended waiting periods for the vehicle and has now told its dealers to stop the bookings till the backlog is cleared.
The company has issued a statement saying, “We are witnessing an extended waiting period on certain variants and have temporarily stopped taking bookings on a few variants.” However, the quantum of backlog and consequently how long it will take to clear it has not been specified.
It is believed that there is maximum demand for the base Ambition and mid-level trend diesel variants and these are two that have been put on hold. However, reports also suggest that some dealers have stopped taking bookings for the 1.0-litre Ecoboost engined version.
The Ford EcoSport has not been without fanfare since the day it was unveiled. Right from a year’s worth of spy shots, the incredible launch price and then few weeks later a glow plug related problem for the diesel engined variants. This (temporary halt in bookings) however, while showing that the car is a massive success is likely to be a damper. With the festive season approaching, it may even turn potential buyers to other models if the delay is too long.
