Ford has taken the covers off its most powerful naturally aspirated engine yet. The brand has revealed that its all-new 5.2-litre V8 will produce 526 horsepower and 580Nm of torque. The engine will be available in the GT350 and the GT350R models.
The new 5.2-litre V8 is not only Ford’s most powerful naturally aspirated engine yet, but also its most efficient in terms of specific output. Without turbocharging or supercharging, the V8 produces 102 horsepower per litre of displacement.
Featuring a flat crankshaft, the new engine is also the highest-revving V8 in Ford’s history – with a redline of 8,250rpm. Unlike traditional V8 engines, this new unit uses a flat-plane crankshaft typically found in high power sports cars or in racing applications.
The Shelby Mustang GT350 and GT350R will go on sale later this year.
