Ford India has sold 7,777 cars while exporting about 8,000 cars in the month of August 2017. Anurag Mehrotra, MD Ford India said “constraints in the supply chain severely impacted export as well as domestic production for Ford cars in August”.
While the impact is not really seen in the domestic market which has been ranging between 6,000 and 9,000 units, the exports have been affected quite badly. Ford India exported close to 18,000 units in August 2016 indicating a more than 50 per cent drop in the export numbers.
The domestic sales that had held through in the tough GST transition period and was expected to surge at the wake of the festive season, has been affected. Although domestic sales has been down from 8,418 units last month, Ford says it is “moving forward with our commitment to deliver world-class products and value of ownership, we look forward to an exciting festive season.”
Also, the increase in GST for SUVs will affect the Ford Endeavour and the American giant is hopeful that the government will reconsider the 10 per cent hike in the additional cess.
