Ford recently opened its first application window online for those with pockets deep enough to afford the all-new GT. Having gotten interest from over 10,800 people, Ford has now revealed that the brand has received 6,506 fully completed applications from across the globe.
Ford received these many applications in the one-month window it had set for potential owners to apply to purchase the new EcoBoost-powered, carbon-fibre GT. What’s more, the brand claims the number of applicants spiked in the last six days, during which 32 per cent of the total applications were completed before the window closed.
Ford is now reviewing applications from those 6,506 potential buyers and will start notifying them in the next 90 days.
Sitting at the top of Ford’s performance line-up, the all-new GT uses a carbon fibre body and a twin-turbocharged V6 EcoBoost engine that develops more than 600 horsepower. The V6 is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Unlike the previous Ford GT which had very little electronics, this new car is highly advanced and features a carbon fibre passenger cell and body panels, aluminium front and rear subframes, active torsion bar and pushrod suspension. Furthermore, the new GT also comes with carbon-ceramic brake discs and adjustable ride height.
Deliveries for the new Ford GT are expected to start by the end of 2016.
