Although an unknown name in the Indian market the Ford Edge is a pretty popular vehicle in several global markets including China, where a new model has just arrived. Built locally, the burly-looking SUV has been introduced with prices ranging between 249.800 yuan (Rs 25.12 lakh) and 429.800 yuan (Rs 43.22 lakh).
The Edge is being offered in three versions: Edge S, Edge Titanium, and an entry-spec version. The S version pictured here features an all-black treatment for the grille, alloys, skid pad and the windows. Inside, the cabin be configured only with five seats while the Titanium version comes with seven seats as standard. Lastly, the entry-spec version can be had in either of those options.
The seven-seater version has been developed specifically for China where you will find a strong demand for vehicles with seven seats.
Under the hood, the Edge uses either a 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 245hp and 350Nm, or a 2.7-litre V6 with 329hp and 502Nm, also turbocharged. Both these engines are mated to a 6-speed ‘SelectShift’ automatic gearbox.
With the introduction of the new Edge, Ford’s range of SUVs in China consists of the Kuga, the Everest and the popular EcoSport. As for the Indian market, Ford is concentrating on the all-new Everest which will soon be unveiled as the Endeavour to compete with other SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner and the all-new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
