- Most likely to adopt the Mach E moniker
- Will debut on 18 November
Ford is gearing up for the reveal of their first electric crossover. This new EV would be inspired by the legendary muscle car – the Mustang and might adopt a Mach E name. The electric crossover will break cover on 18 November at a special event in Los Angeles. Ahead of that, our spy sleuths have caught a production-ready prototype with a small camouflage leaving little to the imagination.
We have seen the digital rendering and few teasers of the electric crossover before, and the prototype confirms all our speculations regarding the design. Firstly, the headlamps are sleek, sharp and have a high resemblance to the Mustang. Meanwhile, the grille is wide and large dominating the fascia but in typical EV fashion, it is absent of any louvres or intakes. Even the front bumper looks handsome complimenting the creases on the bonnet.
As we have seen in the teaser, the Mustang’s fastback silhouette is carried over. But we loved the prominently flared wheel arches in the profile. At the back, the entire taillight section seems to be scrounged directly from the Mustang with three-slat LED units on either side. The rear window area is small as you’d expect from a coupe-SUV body style and the rear bumper appears simple under the wraps.
What logo the crossover will wear remains shrouded in mystery. As seen here it is properly covered under the taping and it is difficult to guess whether it will have a Blue Oval or a Mustang’s iconic horse. Or will it be an all-new logo for the brand’s electric future. We’ll have to wait for the official reveal to know that. Overall, we can safely say that when the covers drop, this electric crossover will be a handsome looking Ford.
All the details that the American carmaker has divulged so far is that the EV will have a range of 600 kilometres (under WLTP). We do hope for more information as the reveal date draws near. After revealing the Mach E (as it will most likely be called) at a standalone event, the electric crossover will also make its public debut at the 2019 Los Angeles Motor Show.
