Ford Mustang, the iconic muscle car, will be launched for the Indian market on January 28. The car will be then displayed at the 2016 Auto Expo.
The present model of the Mustang made its global debut in 2014 and gets many new radical changes differentiating it from its predecessor. The updates were brought in to celebrate 50 years of the Mustang. The car now gets a chrome-outlined hexagonal grille, HID headlamps with tri-slat LED DRLs, round fog lamps and a front splitter. The car rides on five-spoke alloys with a split pattern, while the aggressive look is emphasised due to the muscular wheel arches, side skirts and a prominent shoulder line. The sloping roof line ends into a diffuser at the back, where tri-slat LED tail lamps are seen.
The cabin of the new Mustang is also more spacious than its predecessor and boasts of better quality materials. The interior features an aviation theme highlighting large dials that help in conveying the necessary information effectively and easily. Ford's SYNC 3 infotainment system, leather upholstery, heated and cooled seats, adaptive cruise control, Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with cross-traffic alert, rain sensing wipers, electronic line lock and push-button start are offered as standard. The company also provides a Shaker Pro audio system with 12 speakers as an option.
Globally, Ford offers the Mustang in several engine options, but it is expected to be initially made available only in the top-spec engine for the Indian market. This means the Ford Mustang for India will be powered by a 5.0-litre, V8 petrol mill that churns out 437bhp of power. This engine comes mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. Thankfully, for the ease of driving on Indian roads, the company will offer the right-hand drive Mustang.
The Ford Mustang is one the most awaited cars to be launched on Indian shores. Finally, Ford will launch it in India this year through the CBU (Completely Built Unit). We can expect the base variant to be priced around an ex-showroom price of Rs 50 lakh.
