Ever since Ford announced that it would be producing the sixth-generation Mustang for RHD markets, automotive enthusiasts across the country have been praying for its arrival here. It seems their prayers have been answered by the gods of motoring as a 2016 Mustang GT fastback (in RHD format) has been spotted at the ARAI facility at Chakan.
The spotting of this American icon has led us to believe that the car has been imported for the purpose of homologation. The car in question is a GT fastback version which sports a 5.0-litre V8 engine that produces 420bhp and peak torque of 528Nm. While this engine gets a six-speed manual transmission, this testing variant was seen with a six-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters.
The Mustang GT is priced close to Rs 23 lakh in the United States, but when it comes to India, it will attract heavy taxation and that will take the ex-showroom price of the Mustang GT to close to Rs 80 lakh. While the rumours suggest that this iconic vehicle will be launched in India this year, we believe the Mustang GT will first make its way to the 2016 Auto Expo, followed by the India launch.
We recently had a word with one of the top honcho of the Ford Mustang regarding the Mustang. However, there were no comments on this because the company is now focusing only on the launch of its next three products – the Figo Aspire, Figo hatchback and the new Endeavour.
Stay tuned to CarWale as we get you more details on this exciting car.
