Ford India might not be participating in the upcoming 2018 Auto Expo. But that won’t stop the American carmaker from bringing in their goodies to the Indian shores this year. The Figo Cross will break cover this year. It will be joined by the facelifts of the Figo and Aspire which might receive the new 1.2-litre three-pot Dragon petrol engine as well. However, what comes as a surprise is the appearance of the all-new 2018 Mustang facelift on the Indian soil.
The updated Mustang broke cover at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show last January. It took on the roads in North America late last year and was slated to hit the international markets in 2018. Given the overwhelming response that the current Mustang garnered amongst the Indian car buyers, Ford seems very keen to introduce the new and updated muscle car in India. We expect the 2018 Mustang to go on sale in India late this year.
The 2018 Mustang is still instantly recognisable with sleeker headlamps and a redesigned rear end to give it a meaner stance. The aerodynamics have been improved to boost fuel economy, boasts the Dearborn-based carmaker. The V6 option has been dropped with the update, while the 5.0-litre V8 now comes mated to the all-new 10-speed automatic transmission. The American muscle car comes with a Drag Strip mode and line-lock to burn some rubber, be it for a drag race or on ordinary roads. The new MagneRide suspension is also part of the update. For the first time, the Mustang received a fully customizable 12-inch LCD all-digital instrument cluster. Other new features include performance exhaust, Quiet Mode, SYNC connect infotainment system, new exterior body paints, and a host of active and passive driver assist systems.
The new Mustang, when arrived in India, is expected to be priced slightly higher than the current one sold here. We expect the price to surge to around Rs 70 -75 lakhs, which still makes the Blue Oval muscle car a bargain, compared to its European counterparts.
