Like other major auto players in India, Ford too is working on its strategy to worm its way to better sales. The company said in an interview with a national news agency said that it was looking at introducing a small car model in the country as part of its plan to roll out eight new products by 2015.
Ford at present is revelling in the sales of the EcoSport, so much so that it is being loaded with complaints of coming with long waiting periods. Now, the company is also looking for ways to reduce these periods as this is cutting into their sales. For now, bookings of the EcoSport have been suspended. So Ford is planning to replicate their recent success with a new small car. The compact car segment contributes over 70 percent of all passenger vehicle sales in the country.
"We are on the verge of introducing different products and these will be from all segments. India is an important market for Ford and we will participate in the growth story of all types of passenger vehicles," Ford India Executive Director (Marketing, Sales and Service) Vinay Piparsania said.
Currently, Ford has only the Figo in the compact car segment in India. "Mass segment is very important and we continue to look at the small car segment in India. We follow 'One Ford' policy for Ford globally and we have announced some concepts earlier,” added Piparsania.
The company had earlier announced the launch of eight products in India and four of them have already hit the roads, he added. He said the company is on track to launch the remaining four models within the announced time frame.
