Ford has launched its EcoSport compact crossover in the Chinese market for 94,800 Yuan (Rs 8.2 lakh). The EcoSport will be manufactured under a joint collaboration between Changan automobiles and Ford at their facility near Chongqing city.
The Chinese market gets six variants of which five will be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol mill and one with the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine. Transmission options include both automatic and manual for the 1.5-litre engined cars but for now the EcoBoost variant will only get the manual transmission option and be available only in the top-end Titanium variant.
The China spec EcoSport is longer than its Brazilian and Indian counterparts and settles in at 4.28 meters thereby making for more legroom at the back, something that will go down well with the Chinese car buyers. Reports are also suggesting that the six-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox will be made available with the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine shortly.
The base model of the EcoSport has been priced at 94,800 Yuan (Rs 8.2 lakh) while the top-end variant will cost 127, 800 Yuan (Rs 11.17 lakh). Ford expects to sell 6000 units a month of the EcoSport in the Chinese market.
Ford India has yet announce a launch date for the EcoSport for the indian market but we are expecting that they will launch the crossover in may with deliveries starting by June.
