Ford Focus RS has been touted as one of the most fun cars that do not actually burn a crater in your pocket. The hot hatch is powered by a 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine that pumps out more than 250bhp of power and it is the same engine that also powers the entry-level Ford Mustang.
But the Focus RS has been having issues especially with the white smoke emanating from the exhaust pipes and depleting coolant without any visible leaks from the engine. Even a mechanic’s apprentice will point all his fingers towards the head gasket, but it has taken Ford more than two years to accept the issue.
There are rumours that because of the slightly different state of tune of the EcoBoost engine for the Focus and the ‘Stang, there might have been a mix-up between the heads to be fitted on the blocks serving the Focus. Whatever it is, Ford has now issued a formal recall, and has agreed to mend the discrepancies free of cost. This issue affects cars sold from August 2015 to July 2017 and you have time up to January 2019 to get your Focus RS fixed.
Thankfully, this issue doesn’t affect any car here in India, because, no matter how much we want it, Ford will not get this hot-hatch here anytime soon!
