Ford India has had a cracking 2015, what with the launch of the all-new Figo, Figo Aspire and the refreshed EcoSport. And for 2016, the American automaker is looking to kick-start things with a big bang by introducing us all to what truly is a global icon – the Mustang.
In 2015, Ford officially started selling the Mustang in Europe for the first time in the latter’s 50-year-old history and this year it’s the Indian market’s turn to welcome the Mustang. Yes, Ford India is expected to showcase the Mustang at the forthcoming Auto Expo and follow it with an official launch later in the year.
Globally, the Mustang can be had with a 2.3-litre, four-cylinder EcoBoost engine, a 3.6-litre V6 unit or the full-fat, 5-litre V8 but for the Indian market, Ford is likely to limit the Mustang range with the most powerful 5-litre naturally aspirated V8 model which produces 415hp of power and 530Nm of torque. Paired with a 6-speed manual, the V8 allows the Mustang to accelerate from 0-100kmph in 4.8 seconds.
While the Mustang undoubtedly will be Ford India’s hero car at the Auto Expo, the brand will also be showcasing the latest-gen Endeavour which has improved by leaps and bounds. Among other models, there will be the Figo hatchback, the Figo Aspire sub-4 metre sedan, the Fiesta and the refreshed EcoSport.
