Ford India has recorded a jump of 66 per cent in its domestic sales in April 2014. The American manufacturer sold 6,651 vehicles last month as compared to 4,003 units it sold in the same period, last year. Ford also experienced a massive surge in its export numbers, as it managed to ship 6,646 vehicles last month as compared to 3,267 units in April 2013.
Vinay Piparsania, Executive Director of Marketing, Sales and Service at Ford India, said, “Despite on-going business challenges faced by Indian automotive industry, Ford India sales have held steady in April. In the run up to the formation of the next Government, we remain cautious and watchful in anticipation of progressive policy interventions to energize the Indian automotive sector.”
Ford has struck gold with the EcoSport, which has to be the biggest contributor to this substantial increase in numbers. Waiting list for the compact SUV in some parts of the country is as high as six months as Ford continues to struggle to catch up to the demand. Ford exports a major chunk of the EcoSport manufactured in India, which is one of the biggest reasons for the high waiting period. Ford updated the Endeavour SUV last week and the Fiesta facelift, which was unveiled at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, is next in queue, with a launch expected very soon.
