Driven by the strong sales of the EcoSport, Ford India has registered a 27 per cent hike in the overall domestic sales and exports. Though the domestic sales numbers fell by more than 15 per cent, strong export numbers helped the company maintain a comfortable growth in the August, as compared to the corresponding period in the last year.
Ford India shipped off 7,291 vehicles in the last month, registering a growth of more than 138 per cent, while domestic sales numbers stood at 6,801. While the American manufacturer’s popular crossover, the EcoSport, is selling like hot cakes, the rest of its line-up isn’t faring well, which might be a reason for the decline in overall domestic sales.
Last month, Ford earned another feather in its cap as the EcoSport crossed the one lakh sales milestone in less than 14 months of its launch. In order to keep up with the increased demand which is usually observed during the festival season, Ford India recently revealed their plans to add a third shift for the EcoSport in its Chennai facility.
Speaking about the numbers, Vinay Piparsania, executive director of marketing, sales and service, Ford India said, “We anticipate a continued revival in customer sentiments as we lead up to the festive season and are prepared to meet the higher demand for our cars, including the popular Ford EcoSport. Alongside planning for a third-shift at our Chennai plant, we have significantly reduced the waiting period for most variants of the Ford EcoSport to ensure that more and more customers can drive into the festival season with their favourite urban SUV.”
