Ford is preparing an update for the Figo hatchback since it’s been around for two years already. Alongside the test mule of the 2018 Ford Figo, a prototype of the Figo Cross was also spotted testing outside the American carmaker’s manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat.
The prototype is speculated to be a cross version of the Figo hatch owing to the prominent black cladding all around the car. The mule was wearing roof rails as well although the obvious bash plate was concealed under the camouflage. Ford sells the rebadged Figo as Ka in the South American markets. The Ka Trail is the cross hatch version of the Ka in the country of Brazil. So the American carmaker might have plans to introduce the cross guise of the Figo hatch in India as well.
The Figo Cross will be based on the 2018 model year Figo. The high riding Figo will enter into the segment which currently comprises of the Hyundai i20 Active, Volkswagen Polo Cross, Toyota Etios Cross and the newly introduced Honda WR-V. With the competitive pricing of the new Figo Cross, the Blue Oval would keep things interesting in this segment.
There are no official details available at the moment; but we expect the updated Figo, and its cross sibling to pack in more premium upholstery, new touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity and new body colour. Powering the duo will be the same 1.5-litre diesel motor as the current car. However, the petrol variant is rumoured to receive the newly-developed three-cylinder 1.5-litre Dragon engine which debuted in the new EcoSport.
Ford might badge the cross variant as the Ford Figo Active or Figo Freestyle. More information will be revealed in upcoming days. So stay tuned to CarWale for all the news of upcoming cars in India.
