After sending out several teaser images and a video, Ford officially unveiled the new Everest a few days back. It is known that the full size SUV will go on sale in various Asian markets starting next year and it seems Chinese buyers will be among the initial audience to get hold of the model.
The new Everest, which will also be sold as the Endeavour here in the Indian market, will be launched in China during the first quarter of 2015. It will be manufactured by the Jiangling-Ford joint venture in the local market.
In China, the Everest will be available with either a 2-litre turbocharged Ecoboost four-cylinder petrol engine with 238bhp of power and 360nm of torque or a 2.2-litre turbocharged Duratorq four-cylinder diesel engine with 150hp and 385nm. Topping the range will be the 3.2-litre turbocharged Duratorq diesel engine with 200bhp of power and 470nm of torque. Transmissions duties will be handled by a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox sending power to all four wheels.
First showcased earlier during the year at the 2014 Bangkok Motor Show, the 2015 Everest is based on Ford’s infamous off-roader – the Ranger. The India-spec model, called the Endeavour, will be manufactured in Thailand and sold here through the completely knocked down (CKD) route.
