A prototype of the upcoming Ford Escort has been spied testing on an ice track in northern Sweden. The car designed and developed in China, will be launched in China sometime this year after its world premiere at the Beijing Auto Show 2014.
The spy images hint at the production model carrying styling similar to the concept car shown at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show.
Ford had mentioned that the Escort will be a China exclusive product as of now and is targeted at “young and modern” Chinese families. The Escort will be positioned below the Focus in China.
There are limited details on this car but it will get a choice of the new range of three and four-cylinder EcoBoost petrol units.
Although Ford execs in the past hinted at making the new sedan available in markets outside China there hasn’t been any final decision on it yet.
If Ford decides to sell the car anywhere other than the Chinese market, India would be one of the markets to get it. The car will be positioned above the Fiesta in India and may lock horns with the competition in the D-segment.
