In April this year, Ford Motor Company unveiled the new Ford Escort concept at Auto Shanghai 2013 hoping to attract the Chinese auto market. Now, several patent photos depicting the Ford Escort have surfaced online ahead of the car's 2014 market release in China.
This C-segment sedan will be positioned between the new Ford Focus and the Ford Fiesta. At the Escort Concept launch the company described it as a car for those customers who value exceptional roominess, uncompromised functionality and sophisticated design.
The concept had shown the application of the One Ford approach and the use of global design language in its cars. The production version which will be out in 2014 features a generous front grille and focus-like tail lights. Currently details about the power of this model, configuration and specific body size and other information has not been revealed. Nevertheless, we'd expect something with four cylinders and less than 2.0-litres of displacement sending modest power to the front tires.
When the Ford Escort came to India earlier, it got quite a lukewarm reception and closed off production by 2000. Now since the market here is big on ‘family-size cars’ the car may receive a better welcome if it were to be launched. Nissan Sunny, Renault Scala, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid and Chevrolet Sail will be its competitors here.
The Ford Escort will not be seeing the markets in America since the presence of the Focus and the Fiesta is big there. The makers did hint Europe would be one of their markets but said Britain was not on their list. Therefore Ford will be look to release the production version in China and other developing markets where the C-segment is quite popular.
