According to rumours The new Ford Escort might make its official debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show and could o on sale on January 20 in the Chinese market. The Escort will be exclusively sold in China and will slot between the Fiesta and the Focus there.
The Escort will be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 113bhp and 142Nm of torque. There are two transmission options, a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic.
The new Ford Escort underpinned by the C1 MCA platform will replace the China-made Ford Focus Classic, essentially, a second generation Ford Focus with styling changes.
The new Escort will be manufactured in China by the Chang’an-Ford joint venture. It will compete with the Honda Crider and the Citroen C4L. While Ford has revealed that it will sell the latest-gen Escort only in China, the possibility of the car making it into developing markets cannot be ruled out.
