The Ford Escort has been launched in the Chinese market. It was unveiled in concept form at the 2014 Guangzhou Motor Show and. It replaces the Ford Focus Classic for the People’s Republic and will be sold alongside the new generation Focus.
To quickly recap, the Escort is 4.5-metres long with a wheelbase of 2.67-meters making it quite spacious by Indian standards. It gets Ford’s Aston-Martin esque face but looks like the current generation (India-spec ) Fiesta everywhere else. It gets Ford’s standard black and white interior and most of the standard kit found across its range but lacks any kind of touchscreen system .
On the engine front, its gets the 1.5-litre four-pot petrol motor which produces 113bhp and 142Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a five-speed manual or a six-speed AT. It has been priced in the range of 99800 Yuan (Rs 10.02 lakh) to 124000 Yuan (Rs 12.53 lakh).
