Ford Russia has announced that the EcoSport will be assembled in Russia also. Production for the crossover will commence at the Ford Sollers plant in the Republic of Tatarstan in the second half of 2014. The announcement was made during the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of a new engine plant at the factory premises.
The engine plant, when functional at the end of 2015, will produce three variants of the 1.6-litre Duratec petrol mill; 85PS, 105PS and 125PS. It will have annual production capacity of 105, 000 engines and can be expanded to 200, 000 units. Reports suggest that is expected to supply engines to at least 30 per cent of all Russia built Fords.
Coming back to the Russia spec Ford EcoSport, we expect that it will be similar to the Chinese spec version in terms of length, engines as well as features. However, given Russia’s varied climatic conditions, we expect that Ford will include appropriate driving aid options and features for the Russian spec Ford EcoSport.
