It seems like the wait for the Ford EcoSport in Malaysia has been a little longer, but finally they are getting it for a starting price of 93,000 RM (Rs 17.67 lakh). The Thai-assembled EcoSport will be available in two trim levels - Trend and Titanium with a single engine and transmission option.
The Thai EcoSport measures 4,273mm in length, 1,765mm wide and 1,675mm tall. This makes it 272mm longer, and 33mm shorter than its Indian counterpart. The ground clearance is identical at 200mm, the boot space at 362 litre is a little more than what Ford claims in India (346 litre). However, the space with the rear seat folded is an identical 705 litre.
The engine is the same 1.5-litre petrol unit that powers the Fiesta and the EcoSport in India. The engine produces 108bhp and 142Nm of torque and is mated to a six-speed Powershift dual-clutch transmission (Getrag 6DCT250). Ford is likely to introduce the 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine later when the automatic transmission is paired with the engine as it is only available in a manual guise.
Ford has pretty much summed it up by offering what the market demands in Malaysia. The EcoSport has been on sale in our market since a year. It is manufactured at the company’s plant in Chennai and was designed in Brazil and is a product that is part of the ‘One Ford’ global strategy. The EcoSport opened up to a massive demand in India and is currently the best-selling Ford in India.
