Ford dealers stop accepting bookings for the diesel Ecosport; three week break to meet demand

Ford dealers have currently stopped taking booking for the diesel variants of the EcoSport compact crossover. Our sources have revealed that the company is over booked in terms of production capacity and has told the dealers to start accepting booking after a period of three weeks. The Chennai plant has the capability to produce 3000 diesel EcoSport’s a month, but is currently believed to be sitting on 6000 fresh bookings, part from the pre-launch orders.

The Ford EcoSport diesel is powered by a 1.5-litre oil burner. This is the same unit that sits in the Fiesta sedan and produces 90PS and 204Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a five speed manual that transmits power to the front wheels.

We have reviewed the diesel engined EcoSport as well as pitted it against its closest rival the Renault Duster. While three weeks to start bookings for the diesel engined EcoSport may seem like a long time, it should be noted on the day of launch we confirmed with various Ford dealers that deliveries would take up to three months.
