Ford dealers have started accepting bookings for the highly anticipated EcoSport crossover. CarWale spoke to a few dealers who were willing to accept bookings for a token of Rs 25000 to Rs 50000. In fact, couple of dealers we spoke to said that bookings had been going on for quite a while and that they had to close them due to overwhelming demand and lack of official word from the company with regard to the EcoSport’s launch.
Meanwhile, the red Navi Mumbai registered Ford EcoSport that was spotted at a Mumbai dealership and then on the Western Expressway a few days ago has now been spotted in Bengaluru. It seems that this one is doing rounds at various Ford dealerships across the country for training the technicians to service the compact SUV..
The Ford EcoSport is one of the most highly anticipated products from the American automaker for 2013. It is a sub-four metre crossover and will be powered by the 1.0-litre Ecoboost engine which produces 128bhp and 170Nm of torque as well as the 1.5-litre diesel mill which produces 90bhp, 204Nm of torque and currently sits in the Fiesta sedan. Power will be transmitted to the wheels via a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox.
The EcoSport (depending on the variant) will get cooling glove-box, SYNC technology and various storage spaces across the vehicle. Safety features will include ABS, ESP and traction control. Most of the cabin has been styled in the American automakers new design philosophy and features materials of high quality.
We expect a price in the range of Rs seven to Rs 11 lakh and this should allow Ford to pit the EcoSport against the Renault Duster.
