Ford has identified problems with doors being unlatched on a few of its models like 2015 Mustang, 2013-15 Ford C-MAX, 2013-15 Ford Escape, 2012-15 Ford Focus, 2015 Lincoln MKC, and 2014-16 Ford Transit Connect vehicles. Owing to it, the company has announced a voluntary recall affecting over 8.30 lakh Ford vehicles in North America. The recall exercise will be carried in certain states of the US and replacement of side door latches will be done.
The company stated that the pawl spring tab in the side door latch that might break, thereby preventing the door from latching in the affected vehicles. In certain situations it can also unlatch itself while driving thereby increasing the risk of injury. The door latches on the affected models will be replaced by the company at no additional cost and as part of a customer satisfaction campaign has also offered one-time latch replacement on their vehicle in case the component breaks even if it has not been a part of the recall.
Some of the affected states in the US include - California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, Oregon and Washington. Recently, Ford has introduced the new Mustang in India. However, the India-bound model being a 2016 make, it is reportedly not affected by this recall. Powered by a 5.0-litre V8 engine, the vehicle generates 395bhp of power and 515Nm of torque. The powerful engine comes mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with various drive modes.
