Ford India has started offering the EcoSport with optional daytime running lights (DRLs). Despite being available with a long list of add-ons, Ford had missed out on offering the DRLs, even in the top-end variants. Now though, customers can opt for these DRLs, called ‘Signature Headlamps’, for a premium of Rs 14,000.
The EcoSport sold in Ford’s other global markets have been offered with sunroof and DRLs. At the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, Ford had showcased the EcoSport equipped with both these accessories, which indicated that they might soon be offered in the country. Existing customers can visit a Ford dealership to have DRLs installed in their EcoSport.
Ford also offers a host of other optional accessories for the EcoSport like 15 inch alloy wheels, chrome garnished grille, roof rails, a rear spoiler, reverse parking sensor and side running boards among others. DRLs have turned out to be quite a popular third party accessory among buyers of the EcoSport, though by installing them, owners risked violating their warranty. Though quite expensive as compared to aftermarket ones, installing them at a dealership will offer peace of mind, as the car will retain its warranty.
The EcoSport has turned out to be a cash cow for the American manufacturer, commanding a waiting period of over six months in India. Not only is the car a good value for money proposition, it is also offered in several variants, to suit a wide range of budget. The EcoSport is available in India in three engine options- 1.5-litre TI-VCT petrol, 1.5-litre TDCi diesel and the 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol. While the base petrol, at Rs 6.15 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) is significantly cheaper than its chief rival, the Renault Duster, the diesels are the top selling variants of the EcoSport.
