Force Motors has announced that it will be opening a new engine manufacturing and testing facility in Tamil Nadu. With an investment of around Rs 100 crore, the plant will be set up in Anjur, Kancheepuram district in Tamil Nadu. The company’s Board of Directors approved the decision at a meeting held today and issubject to receipt of necessary permissions, approvals and sanctions.
Force Motors recently signed an agreement with an unnamed global car manufacturer to supply engines. The engines produced in this new facility will be supplied to this manufacturer, but Force hasn’t divulged any details about this deal. Production at the facility will commence from January 2015, though the Pune-based manufacturer refused to comment about the capacity of the facility.
The facility will be manufacturing only diesel engines for now, but it will be equipped to churn out petrol engines too. Force Motors has been assembling and testing Mercedes-Benz axles and engines at its Urse plant in Pune. It also has two SUVs on sale- the Force One and the Gurkha, though deliveries of the latter have not yet started.
