Force Motors will launch the Gurkha four-wheeled drive sports utility vehicle on February 15. The previous avatar of this SUV had been on sale in India for quite a while but was ultimately discontinued due to drop in demand. Though discontinued for the Indian market, the company still exports the Gurkha to countries in Africa and few other markets as well.
The new Gurkha will be based on an older version of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. This is quite evident from the round headlamps, hood-mounted indicators, and snorkel style exhaust running from the hood to the windscreen and roof rails.
The new Gurkha is expected to get the ForceOne’s 2.2-litre FMTech engine which produces 139bhp and 321Nm of torque. It is likely that the BS III compliant version will be launched first. This is most likely a move by the company to targeting the rural markets where the new emission regulations have not yet come into force. The new Gurkha will be priced in the range of Rs 8 lakh and Rs 10 lakh and as we said before, it will be targeted mostly to the rural area.
