Force Motors has launched its Gurkha SUV for Rs 6.25 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) at the 2013 Bus and Utility Vehicle Show being held in Noida. The Gurkha is based on an older version of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class and has been launched with one hard top (4WD) and two soft-top options (2WD and 4WD).
The company has dubbed the Gurkha an extreme off-roader vehicle and to push the message across clearly has given the SUV a ‘4X4X4’ tag. On the outside the Gurkha gets circular headlamps, new grille and bumper and this has given it more presence. The spare wheel cover at the back has finished in a silver colour. The interiors have also been revised and now the Gurkha has been fitted with power steering, air-conditioning, revised dashboard as well as dual-tone finish.
Under the hood, the Gurkha will be powered by a 2.6-litre Mercedes-Benz derived turbocharged diesel engine which produces 85bhp and 230Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to the wheel via a five-speed manual. The engine is currently BS-III compliant and we can expect that Force Motors will eventaully launch the BS-IV compliant version shortly. Keeping in line with the off-road pedigree, the Gurkha gets locking differentials (front and rear), ladder frame chassis, transfer case, snorkel exhaust, fog lamps and a ground clearance of 210mm.
During the launch Force Motors also showcased two special version of the Gurkha features various accessories including a custom paint job and a front bumper mounted winch.
