Force Motors had launched the Gurkha at the SIAM International Bus and Utility Show in Greater Noida back in February 2013. An updated version of the original Gurkha which was sold between 2008 and 2010, the SUV was revived on account of the increased demand for adventure and off-roading vehicles. The price of the car was announced to be Rs 6.25 lakh onwards, but astonishingly, the car never hit the showroom. But according to the rumour mills, it now seems, Force will officially start deliveries of the car during the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo.
The Force Gurkha displayed at the SIAM had a OM616 turbo diesel engine, which was only BS3 compliant. This meant that the Gurkha could not be registered in the bigger cities of India. But then Force launched the One EX with the same engine armed with a common rail direct injection (CRDI) technology. This makes the engine compliant with the BS4 emission norms, developing 81bhp and 230Nm torque. We can expect this same engine to power the Gurkha mated to a five speed synchromesh transmission. The Gurkha will be available in three guises, two soft-top and a top-of-the-line hard-top version. Based on Mercedes’ G-wagon, the car is termed to be a ‘4x4x4 Extreme Off roader’ and will go up against the Mahindra Thar.
A few glimpses of the new TV commercial of the Gurkha were seen in the PowerDrift Anniversary video. We can expect this video to be premiered when Force will re-launch the Gurkha.
