Force Motors has introduced the Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) in the Gurkha Xplorer and the Gurkha Xtreme. The three-door and the five-door trim of the Gurkha Xplorer are priced at Rs 11.05 lakhs and Rs 12.55 lakhs, respectively. And the recently introduced top-spec three-door Force Gurkha Xtreme is priced at Rs 13.30 lakhs. Sadly, the base three-door and five-door trims of the Gurkha Xpedition are yet to be offered with ABS. Deliveries for the ABS version are likely to commence by mid-2019.
However, with new mandatory safety norms due for implementation soon, all the trims will soon offer driver airbag, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, speed alert system and seatbelt reminders. Compared to the standard model, the ABS versions of the Gurkha Xplorer and the Gurkha Xtreme are available for an additional cost of Rs 30,000.
The recently introduced Gurkha Xtreme is powered by the Mercedes-sourced 2.2-litre OM611 engine that generates 138bhp of power and 321Nm of torque. This amounts to 54bhp and 91Nm more than the regular 2.6-litre diesel engine that powers other Gurkha variants. The 2.2-litre engine comes mated to a new five-speed manual gearbox. Moreover, the Xtreme offers approach and departure angles of 44 and 40 degrees respectively, which is more than the Explorer's approach and departure angles of 39 and 27 degrees.
